Julie Ashkenazi, M.S., BCBA, LBA
After earning my B.A. from Dominican University, I began a career as an art director and later worked as a creative director in the consumer packaged goods industry. However, my life took an unexpected turn when a loved one received an autism diagnosis. This experience inspired me to pursue further education, and in 2022, I earned an M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from Endicott College, with a concentration in autism.
Today, I work as an independent behavior analyst, guided by a commitment to compassionate care and neurodivergent-affirming practices. My clinical work primarily involves collaborating with parents and school teams to conduct behavior assessments designed to support learners in educational settings, as well as providing guidance and consulting on programs and procedures as needed.
In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a Research Consultant with the Center for Autism Advocacy: Research, Education, and Supports (CAARES) at SUNY Empire State University. I am also a member of Shining a Light, an advocacy initiative focused on advancing systemic improvements in disability services across New York and prioritizing compassionate, non-aversive, evidence-based approaches to behavior support. Additionally, I co-founded the Neurodivergent-Affirming ABA listserv, which brings together neurodivergent individuals, parents, and providers to advance affirming practices, and co-manage the Shaping Change Research Community, which supports the diverse cultural needs of individuals and organizations through behavior-analytic practices that promote inclusion and equity. I previously served as an Adjunct Assistant Instructor in the Department of Behavior Analysis at the University of North Texas.
I hold licensure as a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) in New York and North Carolina and am an active member of several professional organizations, including the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts (APBA), California Association for Behavior Analysis (CalABA), and the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA).
My research interests include autism, ethics, and service quality.
